I have always had an interest in following latest trends and reading about new designers and inspiration behind designs. What I like most about fashion is how it's a form of self expression and can be played with according to your personality. With re-occurring trends that have been inspired by past era's, I think it's easy to see how certain design elements have been utilized over and over and become timeless, wardrobe staples such as the "little black dress" which has been re-invented over and over according to current fashion trends, for example the ACNE dress shown in the picture. What do the clothes we wear say about us? Does what we wear define us? In some cases I think fashion is used to portray personality traits for example if people like to wear bold vibrant colours, or dress in the style of a certain era they feel they can relate to, 70's punk or 50's Glamour for instance. However people can't be judged purely by how they present themselves when considering often people choose practicality and comfort as apposed to making a visual statement. Who Dictates Fashion? I think that any one or anything can have an impact on how fashion suddenly changes, and that different trends could start from the simplest of inspirations, and be interpreted into the most elaborate designs. As far as fashion followers, I think that celebrities play a big part in the popularity of commercial and high street fashion trends. Whereas with more high end fashion, a strive to be unique drives a vast, variety of different trends to be merged and translated in many different ways by designers and other individuals. Where does it start and go? As I referred to before, many trends re-occur over time and become more contemporary and fitting with what's currently in style. I think this will always be the case and past fashion fads will always re appear or be inspiration to what's in style now. |
